Musically Yours FAQs

Q. What style of music do you play?

A. Musically Yours works as a trio (harp, harp guitar and cello) or as a quartet (harp, harp guitar, cello, violin) for Saturday afternoon weddings/events. For other days we can do duos (harp and harp guitar or harp and/or cello, violin) solo harp or solo guitar.

Q. How many pieces do you typically play as and what instruments are they?

A. We can play in various configurations as explained above. We also have a trio with Megan Mayhoff singing. This can be expanded to add bass and drums. In this configuration, Randall plays electric guitar. This group is called Love Not Money. I have a couple of drummers and bass players that I use in this configuration but it requires a little more notice.  Jayne can do solo harp jobs, and Randall can do solo jobs with all instrumental music or playing and singing cover tunes.

Q. Do you play in other configurations?

A. I also work as a duo with either a drummer/percussionist, a bass player, a female vocalist, or a keyboardist.

Q. Why did you become a professional musician?

A. [Bandleader Randall Sprinkle] started playing guitar when I was 12. In my late teens and early 20s, I got to travel across the US and Canada playing in a rock/country rock band. When that group broke up, I made the decision to go to tech school and get a real job. I ended up working for Duke Energy for 38 years. I kept playing guitar in weekend bands for most of that time. I eventually started playing more solo acoustic gigs and found that the hours were better, and it was easier than playing in a full band.Jayne has played piano all her life. When she started playing harp we saw the perfect opportunity to focus on weddings and corporate events with our music. Our sons were getting older and did not need us as much so we took that extra time to develop our group. As we learned more about the wedding market we saw that many of our customers were wanting something different than the traditional wedding music choices. We spent a lot of time developing a repertoire of modern songs played on classical instruments. We get a lot of compliments for that style.Another goal we have is to find musicians that are good matches with our style and personalities.  In the 10+ years that we have been doing this we have only had 2 cello players and one violinist. We very rarely use subs for these roles but if needed I do have some folks I can contact.Last year both Jayne and I retired from our “day jobs” and now we are free to pursue the job we always wanted to do, be musicians. I realize that is not the normal path, but it worked for me. I knew I wanted to have a family and provide for them. I knew a lot of really great musicians that struggled to make ends meet. I modified my musical goals to include a normal career and became a weekend warrior. Jayne’s path was similar, she put music on hold and stayed home with our boys. When the youngest was in the 3rd grade, she went back to work as a counselor. When the music director at our church retired, she applied for that job and was hired. We are now in a position where we can pursue our passion, but we don’t have to scape by to make ends meet. The cellist and violinist that play with us have similar stories. They both studied music at college. Brandi (our cellist) is a stay at home mom. Her husband is a pilot. When we met her, I told her I was a little concerned about her having young kids. She told me that she “had to play cello” and she would do whatever it took to make it work. Denys (our violinist) is an empty nester now and loves playing music also.

Q. Where are you located?

A. Mooresville, NC.

Q. Do you travel?

A. Travel is not a problem as long as there is reasonable compensation. We have played weddings in NC, SC, TN and VA.

Q. Why should a newly engaged couple book you?

A. We deliver a quality musical product. We are professional in our communications. We take our appearance seriously. We realize that we are one of the first things that the guests will see and hear and we do not want them to be disappointed. We do our best to accommodate any special musical requests that the client might have.

Q. Do you have the capability of providing your own sound & lights?

A. We always use a sound system. My current favorite is a pair of EV 50M speakers. All of our instruments have pickups installed and I am always looking for the next best thing that will improve the sound. We do not provide lights.
