Berklee School of Music grad and music director Charlene Thomas, and Long Island’s first female bandleader Lisa Michaels helm the MarvelUS ship, poised to bring the fun with every appearance.

Q. What style of music do you play?

A. Dance classics, R&B, pop, calypso, reggae, soca, country.

Q. How many pieces do you typically play as and what instruments are they?

A. Currently 7 members: keys (vocals), bass, drums (vocals), guitar, female lead vocal, and 2 male lead vocals.

Q. Do you play in other configurations?

A. Yes, we can scale down; our keys player and drummer can each sing lead. Sax can be added as well as more brass and percussion. We will work with you!

Q. Why did you become a professional musician?

A. Music chose ME (bandleader Lisa). I grew up with a great dad who loved music and he sang every Saturday morning in the house. My very first performance was singing at my uncle’s wedding when I was 7 years old. After that, the lessons began. I started singing professionally at age 15 on weekends while in high school. After college, I was offered an amazing opportunity to be a bandleader at age 23 for weddings and corporate events in and around the NYC Metro area and Long Island. In fact, I was the very first female bandleader on Long Island.

From Jewish weddings and bar/bat mitzvahs to high end weddings at The Plaza Hotel, Essex House and Boca Resort Hotel, etc., I have enjoyed cultivating great talent and together performing for many families celebrating special days.

I still have many thank you notes and recommendations from my work int he Northeast. I emigrated to the South in 2019, seeking a city that had a great music scene and was growing. That is what made Charlotte my new city! Within 2 years I met and married my Southern husband, who was instrumental in encouraging me to stay in music and do what I have done my entire adult life….make music and bring my talent, knowledge and experience to the entertainment industry and wedding industry in Charlotte.

MarvelUS is a byproduct of our collective passion and love for music, and spreading JOY with each and every performance is just what we do!

I enjoy having the ability to exceed the client’s expectations on their most important day, and really leaving a lasting impression for many years to come so their guests will be calling them afterwards about their choice of entertainment!
